Poutine

This is poutine. It's a national favorite, which originated in Quebec. How can you go wrong with french fries loaded with fresh cheese curds (tasting somewhat like mozzarella) and a gravy sauce? We had ours at a little place in Esquimalt called La Belle Patate and it really feels like a little slice of Quebec. - Fern

One More From Cairn Park

As 'Paul from Powell River' commented yesterday, Cairn Park is one of Victoria's tiny jewels, so for you Paul, here is one of the many fabulous views from near the top. The colors this fall have been phenomenal haven't they? - Fern

Blustery Days

I began to express my love of this season, and declare it "my favorite" but I believe I did the same thing in the summer and before that in the spring etc. This was taken on a late afternoon walk in Cairn Park. - Fern

Remembrance Day

This years ceremony down in front of the Legislature Buildings was a wet and cold one. The Canadian Scottish Regimental Association Pipe Band provides today's portrait. - Fern

We went for a lovely walk in Francis King Park today and while the sun was shining, there was no denying that autumn has begun. - Fern

Early Morning at Government and Bay

The street lights reflecting off the wet pavement create such a nice juxtaposition to the black, black sky, don't you think? - Fern
PS Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians who stop to look at these photos and many thanks to you for doing so. Also, congratulations to everyone who got out for the GoodLife Fitness Marathon, well done!

Urban Art?

Sometimes I take my camera out, even though there doesn't appear to be anything worth taking pictures of. Here is the result of my latest effort; creating an interesting image from mundane surroundings, in this case a bike rack. - Fern

Somewhere Mondays

This is Mount St. Helens located in Skamania County, Washington. It erupted on May 18, 1980. Even here in Victoria some people heard it and there was a fine dusting of volcanic ash on everything. I had always wanted to see it and even now, over 30 years later, it has quite an impact. The crater and the surrounding area are beginning to come back to life but it's a slow process. Wikipedia has further information here. - Fern

Autumn

On a morning that started out looking grey and windy we were treated to a few beautiful moments when the sun managed to break through. Typical fall weather. This is another shot of the Lochside Regional Trail, this time from Island View Road, looking south across the fields. - Fern

This is a fine example of site specific art created by my husband on a trip to Dallas Road for a picnic supper. It was inspired by one of our favorite artists, Andy Goldsworthy. - Fern
